Shooting World Cups Again

For the past two weeks I"ve been on the road in Quebec shooting World Cup downhill mountain biking again for Freecaster.tv.  It's been a few years, and its great to see lots of famiiar faces and meet some new ones.  The shooting has been fun, and is definitely a comfort zone for me.  After "leaving" the sport in a state of burnout, it was nice to be excited about the sport again.  I'll start the rumour now....  The Circus 2 is coming in 2010.  I know infinitely more about marketing, producing, and shooting now than I did when I made the first Circus in 2001.  I was 22 years old, fresh and eager, and equipped with nothing but a 3-chip video camera.  Now, I'm older, wiser, and full of new ideas.  Who knows...a 10 year retrospective would be pretty cool, and I want to do it before the "old guard" of riders have retired.

A quick same-day edit of footage from Bromont this past weekend...

New Resort TV Segment

A new Seven Restaurant ad I filmed at Resort TV.

LaunchParty Vancouver - Part 1

Earlier this month I was down in Vancouver at the Republic to shoot a fun tech/startup party called - appropriately enough - LaunchParty VancouverShira Lazar came up from LA to host the show, and we worked the floor capturing interviews with the attendees and the companies showing off their startup projects, websites, and businesses. This video features Maura Rodgers and Danny Robinson from Strutta who organized the event, and product interviews with Moblu, SomethingSimpler (Pul.se), and Sitemasher.

Old Driver's Seat TV Segment - SEMA Show

Just found some Driver's Seat Television segments from last year on YouTube.  Here's a segment I shot in Las Vegas at the SEMA show while I was working for ATV Productions.

Whistler Morning Commute

Just finished up a fun little promo video for Whistler Diaries and Dincus Clothing...spoofing the Whistler mountain bike lifestyle.  All shot over a span of three hours earlier in August.

New Rally Video: Ken Block in NZ

The latest episode of my Flatovercrest.com Video Magazine series is now online.  Earlier this year I had the opportunity to travel to New Zealand with US rally competitors, Ken Block and his codriver Alex Gelsomino as they raced in the 2007 Hella International Rally of Whangarei.

Downhill from a new perspective..

This is a great camera angle mounted on a boom out in front of Jared Graves as he rides the downhill course in Pila, Italy.  This is from the movie Drift 3 apparently.  You really get a sense of the motion and body language needed to ride fast. I've seen this angle done before, but never this well. Kudos!

Production Values...

I've been thinking a lot about production values in my online video content, and wondering whether TV-quality production levels will ever be needed or wanted by the online audience.  On one hand, you can shoot slick professional looking shows or you can just shoot from the hip, on the fly, and if the content is interesting enough, it seems like you'll get just as many viewers.  Anyways, I think I'm going to talk about this concept at BarCamp Vancouver (August 25), I just need to wrap my head around the whole concept and come up with some answers (or just more questions to discuss with the people at BarCamp!).
